Students will create their own animated short films after learning the basics of stop-motion animation. The course will include a variety of demonstrations such as puppet design, storyboarding, and film production. School iPads will be available for use during the sessions or students may bring their own.

Students will design and program LEGO robots to complete tasks as specified by the First Lego League. Newcomers and veterans are welcome and encouraged to join the fun! The instructors are hoping to bring the team to an FLL competition; dates have not yet been announced.

Are you interested in playing chess with older adults at Schechter Westchester? Middle and High School students play against seniors 60 plus. A chess instructor is on hand to help everyone improve his or her game.
Note: This program runs through the school year. The program start and specific dates are yet to be determined.
DOROT programs emphasize friendship, shared interests, and the infinite capacity of people of all ages to learn from each other. Learning about the strategy of chess is great for the brain and can be applied to all aspects of one’s life.
Middle School participants can work in the MS Homework Room until 4:20 p.m.Space is limited. If you are interested in this program, please fill out DOROT’s survey application and you will be contacted by the program director, Patricia C. Harte.
There is no fee for this program, which is coordinated by DOROT Westchester.

Do you like to argue persuasively and passionately? Are you interested in learning about current global issues such as global warming, international refugees, and the spread of infectious diseases? Join the Model UN program, where you will research possible solutions to these issues, study how the actual UN functions, and then try it yourself through an actual debate. Students will learn how to carefully craft an evidence-based argument and how to deliver a strong counterargument. This program is a good introduction for those students interested in joining the Model UN team in High School. A guided tour of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City is also planned!

Students wishing to participate in this year’s fall musical production should be available to attend all regular Monday and Wednesday rehearsals and tech week rehearsals and performance dates listed below. Note that not all cast members are needed to be at all rehearsals – after casting is complete a more detailed Monday/Wednesday rehearsal schedule will be distributed by Ms. Schein.
All students are encouraged to audition; please bring a completed audition form with you. No prior experience needed! All interested students will be given a part, and specific casting will occur after auditions are completed.
Students registered for this program will be contacted in September and provided with additional materials and information. If you have any questions about the auditions, feel free to contact Ms. Schein. See you at auditions!
Auditions will be held from 3:35 to 5:15 p.m. on Monday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 10, 2018 (choose one).

What will you do with your EELRSTT? Hopefully, play LETTERS for 60+ points! Join the Scrabble team to hone and improve your skills in the famous word game. Open to experienced players and complete beginners, we’ll all play together and learn the strategies and skills needed to become strong players! We also have the goal of qualifying for a spot in the School Scrabble Championship toward the end of the year. Please join us to have a great EIMT!
