Middle School Athletics
We run a full athletics program and are part of the New York State Public High Schools Athletic Association. Different sports are offered each of the three seasons – fall, winter, and spring. On average, there are 20 athletes on any given team, with some teams having more or less members; approximately 150 students participating in the athletic program each season.
Seventh- and eighth-grade athletes participate on modified sports teams, with some exceptional athletes passing a selective classification process that allows them to try out for a High School team*. Tryouts are held during the first week of each sports season to determine an athlete’s skill level. There are no cuts at the modified level.
Practices and games are scheduled afterschool Monday through Thursday. We host games at our campus and travel to other campuses throughout Westchester and Rockland to compete against other middle schools (modified) and high schools (JV, varsity). Typically, modified athletes practice until 5:00 p.m. and are finished with their games by 6:30 p.m.
* The High School athletic program offers junior varsity (primarily ninth and tenth graders) and varsity teams (predominantly eleventh and twelfth graders). Tryouts are held during the first week of each sports season to determine an athlete’s skill level and, sometimes, to make cuts if the size of the team makes it necessary.
The following team sports are offered four days a week within each season:
