On January 10, our High School hosted a Yom Iyun (Day of Learning): The "Open Minds Summit," designed to educate our community about issues pertaining to mental health and to diminish the stigma that is often associated with mental illness.

The full day of programming, which included keynote addresses, small-group breakouts, a communal lunch, the screening of the film Angst, and a debrief conversation, attracted over 600 participants—SW students and faculty/staff members, students and faculty members from several local schools, parents and other relatives, mental health professionals, and clergy members. Presenters included representatives from local and national organizations, religious leaders, students, and individuals who shared personal stories about their struggles with mental health.

The summit was proposed and organized by our student leaders. Dozens of other students and many of their counselors and teachers also played important planning roles over the past several months. It was indeed a very proud day for the SW community.
