On Monday, November 6, student journalists from The Lion’s Roar and Schechter Westchester’s Yearbook took part in the 78th Annual Fall Conference of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, at Columbia University in New York City. Each student attended several workshops during the day, choosing from approximately 100 workshop sessions. The sessions covered topics in writing, reporting, interviewing, and editing, as well as subjects dealing with presentation such as layout, design, and photography. The students ate lunch at Café Nana, the kosher café at the Columbia/Barnard Hillel.
The students will put the information gleaned from their workshops to use in their work on The Lion’s Roar and the SW Yearbook. Some of the students hope to pursue journalism after they have graduated from SW and will look to utilize ideas from the Conference in their journalism work in college.
The SW students who attended the Conference were seniors Ariel Abergel, Alyx Bernstein, Sari Brusso, Jonny Davis, Haley Friefeld ; juniors Solomon Fox, Adam Goldstein, Julia Goldstein, Hallie Greenberg, Aly Josephs, Lily Khabie, Carly Marinstein, Ethan Mayblum, Emily Patchen, Galia Wechsler, and Sophia Wolk; and freshmen Sara Greenberg, Alison Kessler, and Maya Rotman. They were accompanied by Fred Katz, faculty advisor to The Lion’s Roar and Avi Nahumi, faculty advisor to Schechter Westchester’s Yearbook.
